Social Justice

Uniting Church in Australia

Croydon Uniting Church has a strong sense of responding to the New Testament imperative to work for a just society. It has a very active Social Justice Committee and the actions of many within the congregation respond to this call. These links give an idea of some of the ways we – and you – can be involved in working for Social Justice.

Make Poverty History Campaign

Asylum Seekers Project

hmheader1This project (based at Lentara, one of the agencies of the Uniting Church) assists and works with Asylum Seekers lawfully in Australia awaiting an outcome on their refugee or humanitarian claim – who are limited in the right to work, access welfare support or Medicare. Croydon Uniting Church is active in supporting this project – both financially and with practical support.

Justice and International Mission Unit

This unit of the Uniting Church in Australia – Synod of Victoria and Tasmania is active in leading Synod and congregations in issues of Justice and Mission.

Act for Peace – Christmas Bowl

header_xmasChristmas Bowl support programs in health, education, equality and empowerment, environmental sustainability and peace with justice within Australia and across the world. Croydon Uniting Church has supported Christmas Bowl for many years, by organising and volunteer staffing a collection from the wider community by collecting in Main Street Croydon prior to Christmas, as well as giving from within the church community.

National Assembly of the Uniting Church

logowebcoloursmThe National Assembly is the National Council of the Uniting Church. The Assembly has responsibility in matters of doctrine, worship, government and discipline. It sets national policy and promotes the Church’s mission in the world. It also establishes standards of theological training and reception of ministers from other communions, and pursues the goal of the worldwide union of all Christ’s church.
